In the Jalousie neighborhood above Port au Prince, the Haitian government spent $1.4 million to paint the slum homes in different colors. The government wanted to attract people, displaced by the earthquake to move to Jalousie.
In the In Haiti, cash is scarce, dirty, and for Haitiens without a bank account, it's hard to stash. NGOs are trying to get Haitians, to carry electronic money instead of grimy gourds.
